Dear Deborah
Can we have a meeting? Its aim to review my first ten years with Rogers, Coleridge & White and identify or reaffirm goals and objectives for the future.
Part of my agenda would be to register pleasure that, compared to the rather in-yer-face methods of Nick Thompson which bombarded me with jobs, not all of them welcome, your style has been much less intrusive.
However, I do notice that within a year of my joining you, my income from writing via my agent had shrunk from a consistent £10,000 plus per annum, which Nick negotiated for me, to consistently less than £1,000 per annum, where it has remained since I’ve been with you. And can it be that Rogers, Coleridge & White has not actually found me a single job?
I moved my various accounts to you in good faith on your assurances – to me and Nick – that collectively you would easily outpace Nick’s performance, even in the highly lucrative areas of television and popular journalism.
I appreciate that Rogers, Coleridge & White work to a more relaxed time scheme than Nick did and this is a relief. But I do remember that Nick liked to see me at least twice a year and feel that ten years is really a long time to go without a meeting for briefing, quite apart from the pleasure of seeing you again.
Can we have one, in Powys Mews or the Marches?
I’ll ring.
